Each year Appirio proudly recognizes and highlights a group of customer thought leaders and influencers -- naming them our Cloud Pioneers. Over the years, these influential Cloud Pioneers have transformed the way their organizations run, using cloud, mobile and social technologies to change the way they interact with customers, partners, employees and even physical locations.
Whether it’s having the courage to walk away from a failed multi-year, on-premise ERP implementation to improve the customer experience, using a new crowdsourced development model to get a game changing application to market fast, or taking a cloud-first approach to all new applications, these customers can serve as inspiration to others in the industry. And likely provide some great advice from their own journey to the cloud.
This year we are especially proud to announce our 2013 Cloud Pioneers of the Year, Education Management Corporation’s (EDMC) Tracey Zimmerman, vice president of student experience and innovation, Ryan Follmer, principal consultant and technical architect and Ruby Smalley, manager of business architecture.
EDMC is among the largest providers of private post-secondary education in North America, focusing on a broad range of academic programs in creative and applied arts, behavioral sciences, education, health sciences and business. Tracey, Ryan and Ruby have spearheaded EDMC’s efforts to build an innovative platform that enables all students to engage, progress and graduate at their own pace. EDMC was aiming for a community-like experience where students could support one another and network with faculty and fellow students to get the most out of their MBA program.
“In the past, we had several separate systems with one user interface, as well as an online experience that included a separate social product for additional student support,” said Tracey Zimmerman. “As a result of having all of these different products, we weren’t able to provide the best possible experience to the students--especially when it came to student engagement with the broader university community.”
With the help of Appirio, Salesforce Communities technology and Appirio’s crowdsourcing development community, EDMC was able to build, extend, customize and launch an integrated social layer into the student experience in record time. The new online experience includes a customized learning plan for each student, a social profile allowing students to collaborate within the academic community, and the behind-the-scenes student management functions that allow faculty to support students throughout their academic career.
In addition to the EDMC team, we would like to recognize our other outstanding customers as Cloud Pioneers for 2013:
Brivo Labs - Lee Odess and Mike Martoccia harnessed the power of crowdsourcing to build an innovative social access management app in record time and at a fraction of the cost of traditional development.
Ceridian - Larry Dunivan, Amy Roy, Kendra Vanbeselaere, and Dena Gluntz made the strategic leap to the cloud to unify global sales operations after a costly and time consuming on-premise implementation failed to meet the needs of the business.
Herman Miller - Ray Linkous’ unfailing support allowed all business channels at Herman Miller to prepare for a transformational change that would better connect and support their customers as they looked to the future.
Kaplan International Colleges - Johan Smith and Stephanie Jenkins unified HR operations for all faculty and staff at 25 colleges across the United Kingdom to provide a better employee experience.
NEXT Co., Ltd. - Hiroshi Kurabayashi spearheaded efforts to change the real estate market in Japan and drive company performance with an innovative next-gen social community for agents.
We are privileged to work with and recognize these industry innovators. Congratulations to all of our winners for truly exemplifying what it means to be Cloud Pioneers!
