The other Appirio Lori (Asburry) has been doing a series of spotlights on performers in past Appirio’s Got Talent (AGT) competitions. She and I love to keep people on their toes by crossing paths whenever we can, so I’ve decided to provide a spotlight on the international Appirio musical sensation, The EMEA Players.
It was truly a “Pop-Up” band. One concert only, one rehearsal only and one song only - “I’ll Tell My Ma”. A truly inspired lyric that most of us learned on the spot:
I’ll tell my ma when I go home
The boys won’t leave the girls alone
They pulled my hair, they stole my comb
But that’s all right till I go home.
She is handsome, she is pretty
She is the belle of Belfast city
She is counting one, two, three
Please won’t you tell me who is she.
Albert Mooney says he loves her
All the boys are fighting for her
They knock at the door and they ring at the bell
Sayin’ “Oh my true love, are you well?”
Out she comes as white as snow
Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes
Old John Murray says she’ll die
If she doesn’t get the fellow with the roving eye.
Musically we had an amazing Irish tenor, a cellist, a tin whistle (seriously, it sounded great!) and a guitarist that knows about 8 chords (me). We were accompanied by three team members doing an Irish folk dance, which was so intense that one of the dancers pulled a muscle. This was rumored to be because one of the others turned on 7, not 8- but that still remains a point of controversy amongst the team. Talk about suffering for the cause, though!
All but me were new to Appirio, and what a great way to introduce them to the rest of the Appirio Global Team. Oh- and did I mention we won?!
